History of
Humana
Founded as a nursing home company in 1961, and it became the largest nursing home company by 1968 before being sold to purchase hospitals. In 1974, the corporate name was changed to Humana, and in the 1980s was the world’s largest hospital company. In the 90s, Humana executives spun off hospital operations from health insurance operations and created Galen Health Care, eventually selling the hospitals. Since then, it has partnered with many companies to educate and promote healthy lifestyles, and continues to be one of the largest names in health care.
