There’s a lot of anxiety for college students and recent grads right now, and understandably so! We’re in a recession and in the midst of a global pandemic at the same time. But while the job market is far more competitive than usual, the show must go on. There are still many companies hiring for entry-level and internship positions right now, you’ve just gotta start thinking strategically and plan ahead.

1. HubSpot

Want to work at a company that was voted Glassdoor’s #1 Best Place to Work in 2020 based on employee reviews? HubSpot is known for their awesome company culture as well as the promising opportunities available for students and recent grads. They are also #1 on our list due to their prominence as a tech company. In the times of COVID, positions in tech are less at risk.

For Current Students
Through HubSpot’s 10-week internship program, you’ll gain hands-on experience and build new skills for your resume. The application for next summer’s Software Engineering internships open in August and close in October and the application for next summer’s Marketing & Business internships open in December and close in February, so it’s important to plan ahead.

HubSpot also has co-ops for students offered in the fall and spring to give you a true understanding of what a career in tech is like. Spring Co-op applications for both Marketing & Business and Software Engineering open in August and close in October.

They also have other programs available for students, like the HubSpot Sales Skills Builder Program, application deadline July 31st.

For Recent or Soon-to-be Grads
HubSpot caters not only to current students, but also to recent and soon-to-be grads. Browse through open entry-level positions and filter by location(s) and department(s). One of the key reasons HubSpot was voted #1 Best Place to Work is the flexibility of their remote jobs.

HubSpot is currently looking for a Remote Customer Support Specialist to aid their West Coast Technical Support team.

2. Slack Technologies

With everyone working from home lately, many companies have looked to find ways to communicate through professional communications platforms. One of the most popular? Slack.

Slack Technologies has beautiful offices and a large focus on company culture. With great internship programs, social events, and guest speakers, Slack is a great place for students to gain hands-on experience, expand their network, and learn more about your desired career. Despite their name and despite their fun company culture, employees are also hard-working and constantly striving to grow, so you’ll find yourself in an ambitious environment.

They offer summer internships ranging from the technical to the non-technical and the applicant pool is highly competitive. Applications for the Summer 2021 internship program open up in August and can be found here. They also have a listing of their open positions here in departments such as Analytics, Customer Success, Design, Engineering, Marketing, Product Management, and Sales.

3. Epic Games

Headquartered in Cary, North Carolina, Epic Games has made an epic splash since it was first founded in 1991. They are most well-known for Fortnite, which is currently the most popular game across the world, but also own Houseparty, a social networking service that has gotten increasingly popular due to COVID. While the entertainment industry as a whole has taken a huge hit during this pandemic, video game sales have soared, making Epic Games a smart place to work.

Epic Games offers “Epic Beginnings” for a student’s career through their internship program. On their site, they stress to apply as soon as possible, but this is generally good advice when it comes to applying to jobs and internships. They hire year-round, but the general recruitment timing for fall co-ops is May to August, while for spring co-ops it’s September to December. Current open internships include UI Programming, Platform Engineering, and Game Design.

They also offer entry-level jobs for recent grads, such as this Social Media Coordinator position based out of San Francisco that is perfect for anyone passionate about gaming and Social Media Marketing. Check out a list of their Epic Internships here and a full list of their open positions here.
